Our North London Studio: Rethinking Manufacturing in the Heart of the City
We built our factory in the city on purpose. Not because it was easy but because it was necessary.
At Blast Studio, we work with urban waste: used coffee cups, packaging, discarded materials that pile up daily across London. To us, staying close to that source isn’t just convenient, it’s essential. Every extra mile a material travels is a mile too many. That’s why our studio is based in North London, just down the road from waste collection hubs, recycling facilities, and some of the cafés and clients we work with directly.
By staying close to the waste, we cut down drastically on transport emissions. And we stay close to our clients so what we make is always in conversation with the communities that shaped it.
A Factory That Fits in the City
To make this possible, we’ve designed a small-footprint, high-efficiency factory. It’s compact enough to sit comfortably inside London - one of the most expensive and spatially challenging cities in the world - but powerful and productive enough to transform waste into high-quality architectural boards and objects.
Our production line uses repurposed machines from the plastic industry, adapted for circular design. We don’t use chemical additives, and our process is designed to be as low-impact as possible. Every step is optimised for urban use with a minimal space and low energy use.
This isn’t just a factory. It’s a prototype for a different kind of manufacturing.
The Future We Believe In: Cities Built from Their Own Waste
The UK imports massive amounts of virgin wood and finished furniture every year. At the same time, it exports waste, because domestic recycling infrastructure can’t handle the volume. We believe that needs to change.
Our vision is of cities where waste becomes a local resource, not a burden. Where production happens near consumption. Where factories are no longer massive, remote, and polluting but small, clean, and integrated into urban life.
By using the waste already present in cities, we can reduce imports, eliminate exports, and rebalance the way we make things. It’s a model that’s economical, ecological, and aesthetically local.
A Studio Designed for Dialogue
Our North London studio is where we work and where our ideas take shape. It’s where we test, prototype, and fine-tune every step of the transformation process. When we collaborate on a project, we welcome clients to see the material journey for themselves. It helps them understand what’s possible and how their own waste can become something meaningful, beautiful, and built to last.
We believe manufacturing should be transparent, intelligent, and part of the urban fabric. And we’re building that future, one board at a time.
