our journey

We’re a London-based collective of designers, architects, and makers who believe that waste can be the beginning of something beautiful.

Blast Studio was founded in 2018 by Paola Garnousset, Martin Detoeuf, and Pierre de Pingon with a shared vision: to bring nature and technology into dialogue and transform urban waste into innovative materials and architectural elements. As architects, we were frustrated by the amount of waste generated by cities and inspired by the potential to turn it into something meaningful. So we built our own machines, experimented with living organisms like mycelium, and started developing a new type of biomaterial using discarded coffee cups and sawdust from London.

What started as a research-led practice has grown into a studio producing boards, furniture, and interior elements for clients who care about both sustainability and design. Along the way, we’ve built a portfolio that spans experimental artworks, public exhibitions, and bespoke commissions. Today, our focus is on creating sustainable panels and objects that integrate into architectural and interior design projects, made from waste but designed to last.

Our work has been recognised internationally. In 2020, we received the Prix d'Encouragement en Architecture from the French Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 2022, we were named New Talent at the Surface Design Show and finalists for the Loewe Craft Prize. In 2023, House & Garden selected Blast Studio as one of its Rising Stars of Design.
